Plan Your Flexibility

I love planning – it gives me a sense of control (lol) and a roadmap for the future. But all the planning in the world won’t guarantee a perfectly predictable day. Weather can change, people make mistakes, technology glitches – it’s all possible.

To try to stay flexible so that I don’t lose my mind every time plans change, I try to:

  • Leave some open spots in my schedule to give me time for recovery, emergencies, and fun (and not-so-fun) surprises.
  • Remain open and mentally flexible for when things don’t work out exactly as I wanted.
  • Cry – sometimes it’s just nice to cry.

Yes, the wrench in my plans has the potential to create a more challenging day. But it has the same potential to create better ideas that I wouldn’t have considered. That’s the thing, we won’t know. As soon as we stop pretending to know, we can live more realistic, manageable, abundant lives.

ACTION: When your plans inevitably shift, how do you want to react?
