Baby Steps

We often chase grand gestures, overlooking the power of small actions. Think about a splinter in your foot. Suddenly a tiny piece of wood feels like it makes a big impact, disrupting your entire day. The same is true for our goals. Small changes, consistently applied, can have a significant impact.

We can all relate to enjoying a good “aha!” moment, the dramatic life shift that makes everything feel significant. We dream of a complete 180, a big change that catapults us towards our goals. Here’s the truth: those grand gestures are rarely sustainable.

For example: a muscle that’s never used can’t handle a sudden, intense workout. It’s the same with our lives. Big changes often lead to burnout and discouragement.

The real power lies in small movements. Celebrating those tiny wins – the nerve-wracking call you made, those extra seconds you held your plank, or even just showing up to do some exercise when you’d rather curl up under a blanket – that’s what makes a difference.

Small actions add up. Every little victory builds confidence, propelling you forward. It’s the consistent, daily dedication to progress, not some grand revolution, that brings lasting change.

ACTION: Think about your big goal and identify the smallest step you can take towards it today.  Take that action, no matter how insignificant it seems, and notice how it makes you feel. Let the satisfaction of moving forward fuel your next step.
