I Can’t Do It… Yet

Sometimes, life feels so overwhelming. There is so much to do in order to maintain the basics of being a responsible adult. It’s exhausting and it can get me down and make me feel defeated. When life gets difficult, and I start thinking things like “I can’t do it”, it scares me. Can’t do what? Life?

To combat the potential spiral into immobility, I pick up my tool that turns a thought into stem sentence:

“I can’t do it” might be a true sentiment so I don’t want to dismiss it. But I can add to it:

I can’t do it… until Monday.

I can’t do it… unless I get help.

I can’t do it… before I pick up these resources.

“I can’t do it” is a reasonable thought but making it a stem sentence and practicing finishing that sentence in various ways, makes the thought the start of a useful process.

ACTION: Practice using negative thoughts as a stem sentence to find what you need to move forward today.
