POOF! There it is!

Today is a day in the middle of the week… the middle of your life… the middle of the Universe. Does it really matter what day it is? Let’s call today the day you were going to start being that person? The person you admire. The one that hits the goals you’ve been aiming for in your mind.

Have you taken any action? Maybe you’re waiting for a “perfect” moment or you think you’ll get started once you have all the tools and resources that someone else has. Maybe you’d become a programmer if you had that person’s ability to look at code and decipher it. Maybe you’d write your book if someone gave you the chance that the other author got. Maybe you’d deliver your project by the deadline if you had the kind of time that your boss has.

OK POOF! You have what they have. You are that person now. And now you have to do the things that they do to keep having what they have.

Pick something that the mentor in your head needs to do on a regular basis in order to keep being who you admire. It doesn’t have to be extreme because everything new is likely to have enough of a challenge. You don’t have to make a big change. Try a small change towards the goal.

If the person you want to be wakes up before the sun rises. You might not be able to start there. But, you can make a small shift based on that information: wake up earlier than you’re waking up now. That step can feel satisfying enough to convince you that you can change; motivating you to keep that change and strive for other small improvements. A little at a time. One minute at a time.

ACTION: Challenge yourself to a tiny, achievable action related to your goal.  For example, if you want to write a book, commit to writing just one sentence a day for a week.
