Remember The Tinman

“And remember the Tin Man found he had what he thought he lacked. Remember the tin man. Go find your heart and take it back.” – Tracy Chapman (song: Remember The Tinman)

Life can be harsh, and there have been times when my heart felt broken, even stolen, leaving me feeling like a victim of deception. Disappointment stings, whether it’s from someone not following through on promises or the discovery that someone wasn’t who they seemed.

These experiences are common. They happen to everyone at some point.

But here’s the thing: heartbreak doesn’t mean my capacity to love is gone. Here are some reminders that help me navigate through these tough moments:

  1. MY HEART IS STILL MINE: I never gave away my heart. I shared it briefly.
  2. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS: Words fade, but actions echo. Trust what people do, not just what they say.
  3. SELF PRESERVE: Just like putting on my gas mask first in a crisis, I prioritize my well-being so I can love others fully.

Keeping these thoughts in mind doesn’t mean I’ll never be hurt again. But they serve as a powerful reminder that I deserve love and warmth, and I can choose to open my heart again without losing myself in the process.

ACTION: Sit quietly for one minute and notice the beat of your heart. Let it be a reminder that it’s still there beating for you and giving you life.
