The Struggle is Real

I am willing to bet that every great accomplishment you’ve achieved took a lot of work. Everything you value, that you are proud of, took time and effort.

This might make you wonder: Why settle for the easy way out? Instant gratification is like a sugar high, it could provide a rush of pleasure, like a dopamine explosion in your brain, but then likely, quickly fades.

The practice, for example, of writing this blog includes research, learning, writing, editing, rewriting, and second-guessing my skills as a writer trying to relay information that has meant a lot to me. Along the way, it can feel uncomfortable and intimidating. The image in my mind of crossing a finish line looks very different from the daily grind.

Here’s the good news: anyone can work hard. It’s a choice we make every day. The more we show up and put in the effort, the closer we get to achieving our dreams.

So, let’s accept the challenge, embrace the discomfort, and watch ourselves accomplish amazing things!

ACTION: When you’re tempted to take the easy way out, pause. Think about something you’ve accomplished through hard work. How does it feel now, compared to a fleeting moment of instant gratification? Use that feeling to pick the next right step.
