Version You.0: Update Your System

Day four of comparing humans to computers

How long do you wait to update your computer’s software? A day? A week? Never? It’s supposed to be a no-brainer, right? Updates improve performance and security. So why do we resist updating ourselves?

Two reasons:

  • Time investment: Learning new things takes time and effort.
  • Fear of change: A new system might feel unfamiliar at first.

Learning new things, thinking differently, and adapting to change can feel uncomfortable. However, it’s essential to keep your “internal settings” updated.

Similar to how a software update improves a computer’s performance, embracing new knowledge and experiences keeps our minds sharp and our bodies in tune with the ever-changing world. It’s like a continuous upgrade that allows us to operate at our best.

Think of it as a two-pronged approach:

  • Update your gadgets: Embrace new technologies and tools that can enhance your life.
  • Update your thoughts and behaviors: Continuously learn, expand your skills, and adapt to new situations.

Both your physical and digital systems need regular updates to process new information efficiently. Embrace the “uncomfortable” and keep yourself running at peak performance!

ACTION: Don’t wait for a major overhaul. Instead, seek out small opportunities to update your knowledge and skills throughout the day. Read an article on a new topic during your lunch break, listen to a podcast on your commute, or take an online course to learn a new skill. Small, consistent updates are just as effective as a single, massive one.
