Walk Away

This morning, while working on a project, I thought I had saved the file. But instead, all my work, both from this morning and previously, was gone. My heart started to race. The screen filled with what looked like gibberish. In an instant, I was completely lost.

I wanted to power through and fix it, but my emotions were overwhelming. So, I did something that felt counterproductive – I took a break. I stepped away to breathe and gather myself. I’ve learned that finding the right solution requires me to first right-size the problem.

Taking a break isn’t easy. It can feel like admitting defeat or letting things fall apart. But it’s just a minute to gain perspective.

When I returned to my desk, the work was still gone, but I was there. I wasn’t in the ideal situation, but by taking a moment, I was present and able to approach the problem with a clearer mind.

Action: Take a break today. See if you can pause briefly before reacting to something stressful.
