Create Yourself

I talk to myself all day. Sometimes, I have full-blown conversations, asking myself questions and answering them. This is common. We talk to ourselves, sing to ourselves, and even yell at ourselves sometimes. Recently, I realized that I invented a “me” that helps me be more productive—the “me” I want to be. When I don’t want to do a task that needs to be done, I tap into the version of myself that would do it. This version needs to be repeated (a lot) to grow and improve.

David Goggins uses the name “Goggins” to refer to a specific mindset or persona he’s created to push himself beyond his perceived limitations. Similarly, Sasha Fierce is the stage persona Beyoncé created to help her tap into her fierce and confident side while performing.

I haven’t named any of the voices in my head yet, but I like the idea that we are made up of a spectrum of personalities working together as a team. This concept can be empowering, helping us harness different aspects of ourselves to tackle various challenges.

ACTION: Take one minute today to think about a task you’ve been avoiding. Imagine the version of yourself that excels at this task and channel that persona. Notice how this shift in mindset affects your productivity.
