Rain on Your Wedding Day

I’ve spent time being mad at the rain. It sounds (and is) absurd, but the rain has ruined plans I was very much looking forward to, and I had trouble getting over it. It felt like nothing else would be able to make me happy that day. No other activity would be good enough. The sad truth is, I ended up ruining my day more than the rain did. I pouted, stayed sad, and gave up looking for alternative activities.

I can’t control the weather, but I’ve found that I can control myself. I can choose to face reality. When rain disrupts my plans, it’s okay to feel disappointed, but I don’t get to dwell on it all day.

If I take a breath, I can look around, stop the downward spiral, and find alternative plans. If I let it, despite the rain, my day might surprise me for the better.

Life will not go exactly as planned. I’m allowed to feel let down by it but by practicing moving through the sadness rather than being defeated by it, I lose less days.

Action: Look for an alternative route today. Whether that’s a different road to get to work or a different decision on what to eat for lunch. Practice the change that you are in control of.
