Don’t Worry About It

A friend of mine was telling me that he’s always overworked at his job, the people there aren’t respecting his time, and he’s frustrated with the work they’re giving him. It’s natural to worry about someone you love who’s going through a hard time, and “don’t worry about it” can feel dismissive when there’s reason to be concerned.

But how does that help my friend?

There is no positive result when spending time dwelling on something. Worry takes no action. It repeats a thought with no useful response. I can spend time worrying about my friend or I can spend time letting him vent to me, sharing my experiences that relate to his issues and being there for him where I can.

Action: When you catch yourself worrying, look for an alternate response.
