Face Forward, Glance Back

The start of a new year gives us a valuable reference point to look back on. If we approach last year as an experiment, what information can we find?
When looking back:
- Look briefly: There’s no need to dwell on the past. Like looking in a rear view mirror when we’re driving, we glance at the environment long enough to get the information and then face straight ahead.
- Be gentle: When we look back, we will notice some mistakes and missteps that we took. These stories are not brought back up to beat ourselves up with. They are used to notice alternative actions that are available to us should the issue come up again.
- Pause: It might feel necessary to try and fix the unfortunate moments that we notice when looking back on the year. Take a pause. Before you take action, remember that you can’t alter the past. Check what you need to move forward.
Action: Take time to reflect on the past year. Write down your thoughts. Journaling can help you process your thoughts and solidify the insights you gained.
