What Have I Become?!

I haven’t been feeling like myself lately. A lot has changed for me, including leaving my career, starting a new company, and moving to a different state. Each of these changes requires time to adjust and can be overwhelming. But they’re happening simultaneously with the rest of life’s challenges: growing older, experiencing body changes, adjusting post-pandemic to social and work life, and keeping up with technological advances. All of these factors shape the new me.

I have to keep getting to know myself through every change in life, noticing how I’m different. For instance, I wake up hours earlier than I used to and I socialize differently and less frequently now. This isn’t how I used to react to life, so I don’t always recognize myself in my behaviors. Right now, I’m taking time to notice these changes so I can slowly adjust.

As time passes, I can’t go back to what I used to be. That person doesn’t exist anymore, not just because of the pandemic or work, but because I’m always evolving. Instead of trying to revert to who or where I was, I’m getting curious about who I am now and where I have arrived.

It’s not always comfortable to navigate new situations in my life, but staying open to life’s inevitable changes keeps me more sane than fighting to keep everything the same just to avoid the discomfort of adjusting. It’s worth the work and effort.

ACTION: Take a moment today to write down the major changes you’ve experienced in the past year. Reflect on how these changes have impacted you and how you’ve adapted. Share your thoughts with a close friend or in a journal to gain deeper insights into your evolving self.
